Christmas month again? Come on, I'm sure you can get out some sleigh bells. But perhaps we should place some strict rules this year as I know some of you will groan at his theme.
1. This year, the song HAS to be about the role played by a Father Christmas figure - again, real (in the department store, at the school bazaar) or imagined.
2. The Father Christmas figure CAN be a woman or a man or someone who wishes to announce their desire to be gender neutral (I'm saying this in May; this will probably not be in the news come December.)
3. The following words or phrases must be included in your composition
Fire and/or Chimney
Present and/or Gift
Snow and/or Weather (or other types of weather including 'rain', 'wind' or 'sunshine')
4. As long as the song features the idea of a Father Christmas figure as a back-story, one is allowed to tell the story of surrounding characters (whether that be parents, children, shop-workers or reindeers.)

I like your other suggestions Rob, but not so keen on this one. We've done three Christmas songs already, and some of us have already written songs specifically about Father Christmas. Any chance of something different - a song about winter, perhaps, or the cold, or even a song that starts The End of... given that it's the end of the year. Sorry, it looks like you've put quite a bit of thought into this theme, but it just feels very familiar. I'm happy to go ahead with it if others disagree though.

Have to agree with Christian on this one! A thought / idea: seeing as the months leading up to Christmas month are definitely 'theme' months( change, hero, conspiracy etc ) perhaps we could do a genre type thing and my idea is.... an overwhelmingly-over the top happy /upbeat song!

I'm happy to go with the what ever is presented. Having opted to do a 'winter' song about running last time, perhaps I'm less jaded about Christmas songs.
I was starting to get an idea of turning this into a very dark song indeed. Think of Tom Waits' 'Bone Machine' and you'll get the picture. Half the fun is trying to subvert the terms of reference.

I'm up for doing a happy song, as Phil suggests.

Oooh. I didn't know there'd been so much discussion. You can tell where my head is!!
Okay, let's follow Phil's lead and go for a relentlessly happy tune. Something upbeat to beat the winter blues.
